FUTURES: Higher Education & Careers
Our FUTURES programme is designed to inspire ambition, provide clarity, and support every pupil in navigating the evolving landscape of higher education and career opportunities.
From the First Form (Year 7), pupils are introduced to a structured and progressive programme of careers education. This includes regular bulletins, tutor group discussions and targeted events that encourage early exploration of interests and aspirations. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil feels confident and well-informed as they begin to consider their future pathway.
Throughout their time at Reed’s, pupils benefit from personalised guidance and a wide range of opportunities to connect curriculum learning with real-world applications. The pastoral curriculum integrates careers education at every stage, while the Fifth Form (Year 11) Employability Development Programme offers focused workshops and work experience pathways, delivered in collaboration with external partners.
We are proud to work closely with organisations such as Unifrog and InvestIn Education, as well as our extensive Old Reedonian network. Our alumni play a key role in supporting current pupils in a range of ways offering academic advice, sharing professional experience and providing career mentoring opportunities conducted through FutureCareers Fairs, FutureCareers Seminars, FutureUni Fairs, mock interviews and departmental presentations/workshops.
As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality careers guidance, Reed’s is currently working towards the prestigious Investor in Careers Award.
GUIDANCE PROGRAMME
OXBRIDGE
Each year, a number of Reed’s students apply successfully to Oxford and Cambridge, supported by a dedicated programme that begins early and builds throughout their time in the school. All pupils are encouraged to undertake ‘challenge’ tasks that emphasise analytical thinking and interdisciplinary connections, and these are further developed for some pupils through the Academic Scholars programme that runs from First Form (Year 7) through until Upper Sixth. Subject-specific societies are also offered across all year groups.
In the Sixth Form, tailored support is provided through one-to-one mentoring, guidance from the Head of Oxbridge, and input from academic departments. Students also attend talks from Oxbridge tutors, receive advice from recent applicants, and take part in interview and admissions test preparation, ensuring they are well-prepared and confident in their applications.
MEDICS
Our Medics (including applicants for veterinary medicine, physiotherapy and nursing) are supported by a dedicated Head of Medics and all interested applicants will attend regular ‘Med-Soc’ meetings from the beginning of the Sixth Form.
In recent years, we are delighted see a number of our medicine and veterinary medicine applicants receive multiple offers for their chosen subject across a range of top universities.
INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITIES
Students from Reed’s apply to a range of international universities. In recent years, destinations applied to have included Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Japan and the USA.
