Blessed Saviour
Celebrating 150 years of ORs in song at Abbey Road Studios!
Picture this: 150 years ago, a seemingly ordinary year became an extraordinary milestone for Reed’s School (or the London Orphan Asylum as it was called then) and its alumni, affectionately known as Old Reedonians.
It was in this year - 1875 - that the ‘Old Reedonians’ as an entity was born; a remarkable legacy that has flourished for over a century and a half. Today, this vibrant network spans generations, genders and global boundaries, united by shared history and enduring bonds.
What better way to mark 150 years of connection than with a song that unites us all? On Friday, 31st we released Blessed Saviour - a musical celebration that’s as meaningful as it is inspiring.
This remarkable project was driven by the special talents of Old Reedonian composers, musicians, filmmakers and editors, who gave of their time and resources for free, to create a piece with universal appeal. Their inspiration was the prayer of our Founder, Rev Dr Andrew Reed which remains as the School prayer, 200 years on. It isn’t showy or complicated. You don’t need to be religious to understand its message. It simply asks for the strength to do better.
Blessed Saviour transforms our Founder’s values and this enduring message into a contemporary anthem, all brought to life by charming ORs, brilliant pupils and inspiring music staff. And where better to record and film this than at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, only made possible by the network and generosity of the Old Reedonians. What a day it was; steeped in excitement, unity and the making of another bit of history.
The result is a song to which not only the whole Reed’s community can relate but, we hope, that others will sing and use their voice for good.

However, we have another dream: to get Blessed Saviour into the charts! To make this happen, we need every single person within the Reed’s community – past, present and future – to rally together. Download it. Stream it. Share it with family, friends, colleagues, and – yes – even strangers! With your help, we can hit the 40,000 target. Easy, right?
There’s also an added benefit to creating a chart topper that should not to be overlooked…every download will raise money for our charitable Foundation ensuring the legacy of Andrew Reed and our Old Reedonians lives on for at least another 150 years!
There’s a saying:
"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members."
(Coretta Scott King).
In Blessed Saviour, we have a chance to show our greatness.
