Boarding in the Sixth Form
Boarders are a huge part of the fabric of the Sixth Form and this is exemplified by the boarding accommodation, which is an integral part of the Sixth Form House itself; like all we do, inclusiveness is a strength of our boarding provision.
Central to the ethos of boarding at Reed’s is the notion of the ‘boarding family’. The boarding experience combines the comforts of home life with the advantages offered by the facilities and structures of school: the best of both worlds.
In a school where student engagement is hugely significant, boarding is at its heart. The Sixth Form boarding house combines the best features of co-education; boys and girls have their own accommodation wings, but the work and social areas are mixed, replicating a university hall of residence. All boarding rooms are single occupancy.
The Sixth Form Boarding experience at Reed’s aims to help prepare our young people for life after school by promoting independence. Boarders learn to live in a diverse and dynamic community, as well as learning more practical skills such as doing their own washing. Such independence is scaffolded by the Boarding House staff; the Head of Sixth Form Boarding and Head of Sixth Form both live in the Boarding House with their families and the Sixth Form Matron supports the boarders during the school week. Boarding Prep sessions from 6.30pm to 8.30pm each weeknight are supervised by members of the school’s academic staff.
The boarding experience aims to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the boarders’ and their families. Our full boarders can choose to stay in the boarding house or go home each weekend. We can offer ‘Flexi’ and ‘Ad-hoc’ boarding if we have the rooms available; priority is given to those who wish to full board.
