Tom graduated in English and European Literature from Warwick University, subsequently studying for an MA and a PhD (on T. S. Eliot). He spent a number of years working as an English lecturer before switching to the secondary sector in 2013, taking up the role of Head of English at Haileybury. He joined the English department at Eton College in 2016, and for five years served as Eton’s Director of Universities. His current role is House Master of College, the boarding house which accommodates the 70 King’s Scholars. He aims to ensure that College is an inclusive, kind, and empathetic community, in which emotional intelligence and good character are prized as highly as academic achievement.
