Empowering the Future: Fifth Form’s week of skills, inspiration, and entrepreneurship
BackThe 5th Form took part in a Higher Education and Careers Week as part of our aim to prepare pupils for the future. The week began on Monday with a series of workshops exploring interview skills, writing CVs and how to present yourself in a business environment. These skills were then put to the test on Tuesday when pupils received ‘mock’ interviews provided by a mixture of Old Reedonians and current parents. Pupils were put through their paces to talk about their skills, values and interests and to expand on the points written in their CVs.
Trips to either Imperial College, London, or the University of Portsmouth’s Open Days on the Wednesday allowed the boys to benefit from campus tours, department talks and the chance to talk to current students – they came away inspired to make the most of life in the Sixth Form and beyond.
Curiosity and creativity were further developed on the final day through the Reed’s School Enterprise Day. This slickly-organised day saw pupils develop sophisticated business plans and develop ideas for a product for a summer festival. With ideas including a bracelet that could charge a phone and a solar-powered bottle to cool tap water it was obvious there was true entrepreneurial spirit amongst the pupils!
