General Studies

The General Studies course provides pupils in the Sixth Form with educational enrichment alongside their chosen courses of specialised study and follows on from the CPHSE programme in the earlier years at Reed's.

The course is broad; covering a range of current affairs, social, political, moral and ideological issues and is preparation for life beyond the Sixth Form. Weekly lectures from distinguished visitors and debating contemporary issues enables pupils to address topics outside traditional academic subjects. They have the opportunity to develop their own understanding and to form and articulate their own critical judgement.

Our range of speakers is deliberately diverse, from the Chairman of the 1922 Committee to stage hypnotists, TV commentators to war photographers and writers; there are also intensely personal stories and controversial topics, all designed to challenge Sixth Form pupils.
