Reed’s are top all-boys team In the Inter-Schools Ski Challenge

Back

Cancelled flights, transfer delays and lost ski bags were not enough to dent the resilience of 14 of the Reed’s ski racers on their way to the Inter-Schools Ski Challenge in Pila, Italy, when the “beast from the East” caused chaos in Geneva as well as here in the UK. After just one day of training before the races they showed that they were up for the challenge raised by the other 500 or so racers from over 80 British, French, Swiss and Italian schools.

Ben Hart was on outstanding form and made the podium in both the fiercely competitive U16 Slalom and Grand Slalom races. Adam Fluck, James Colley and James Gillett all picked up Grand Slalom medals in the U16 and U18 races, whilst Tobi Kadrnka also gained a medal in the U12 GS. A tough Slalom course saw Adam and James Gillett’s medal hopes slip away having been in a strong position after the first run, but a steady nerve saw George Dendle pick up a medal with Lucas Burton just missing out.

A very successful event for Reed’s was underlined by several other top 20 finishes for a number of pupils: Joe Davey, Jack Greenwood, Tom Jackson, Cameron McDonald, Tom Hudson and Will McDonald.

The performances would see Reed’s finish as the top all-boys team in the schools’ team event, and in Fifth place overall! Well done to all our racers who picked themselves up after a less than ideal opening to the races and again were tremendous ambassadors for Reed’s.
