Reed's In The News

A morning of Engineering activities for pupils in the Second Form started with creating a catapult to launch a plane. In groups they researched what might affect the flight path of the plane, and what structures are the strongest.
They then set to work in FutureTech making their sketched design with the materials provided as well as being taught the theory of forces acting on the plane and how launch angles affect the distance of a flight.
Finally, the hard work was put to the test by launching the planes to see how successful the design was. A second flight with weights put their theory lessons to good use.
A great opportunity to learn about designing and building as a team!

A group of students took part in an exciting Model United Nations (MUN) conference hosted at Epsom College. They represented Vietnam across several different committees as well as working together as a delegation in the afternoon.
It was a large conference with over 200 students from schools across Surrey, South London and Kent taking part.
Debating topics such as the conflict between the United States and Venezuela led to some lively and thought-provoking discussions.
Students gained a valuable opportunity to develop confidence in public speaking, debating and teamwork, as well as learning more about global issues and diplomacy. All skills that universities value highly!

What does AI really mean for your future career? Lower Sixth Business students found out at The Drapers' Company's Raleigh Lecture at Drapers' Hall. This year theme was 'AI for good' focussing on AI's real-world impact on careers in technology, finance, defence and enterprise.
Hearing from three industry experts and joining a live panel discussion, students left with a clearer picture of how AI is reshaping the workplace and why human skills will matter more than ever!

Thanks to @swiftsgolf for another great event this time at the remarkable @royalashdownold.
@world_amateur_golf_rankings points on the line.
A strong performance from the Reed’s squad saw the team secure 2nd place overall, with Aaron M narrowly missing the individual title on countback.
Great contributions from Josh J (celebrating his 18th birthday), Finlay F and Harvey C helped keep the team firmly in contention throughout the week.
The result boosts the squad’s season ranking points as attention now turns to the Tour Finals @trevosegc in a few weeks.
Still everything to play for.
Congratulations to Rossall School on an impressive clean sweep across all categories.

Lower Sixth historians stepped straight into Tudor England with a fantastic visit to Hampton Court Palace that had everything!
An engaging lecture from Tracy Borman, Chief Historian of the Royal Palaces; a tour of the Royal Chapel and the magnificent Great Hall (believed to be the second most valuable royal asset after the Crown Jewels); Real Tennis watched from the courtside, and lunch in the sunshine.
The highlight? Coming face to face with Anne Boleyn and Thomas Cromwell themselves - historical interpreters who answered the students’ questions with humour, warmth and genuine insight bringing Tudor history to life.

Pupils and staff went ALL out for #WBD2026 here today! This year's theme was Page to Screen, celebrating the stories that leapt from the page and onto the big screen.
Bristowe nailed it by channelling the spirit of Dead Poets Society. O Captain, my Captain! The Biology dept proved that science and storytelling go hand in hand by transforming into the rabbits of Watership Down, Hazel would be proud. The front office declared it their unbirthday and hosted a full Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Down the rabbit hole! #Aliceinwonderland
A huge thank you to every pupil and member of staff who dressed up, leaned in and reminded us why reading matters.

What a fantastic way to learn the traditional craft of blacksmithing!
The Product Design dept took a group of pupils to the Quinnell School of Blacksmithing at Rowhurst Forge for a day of practical metalworking.
They were shown how to use a coke forge to heat steel to a bright orange glow before shaping it on an anvil and had demonstrations covering essential techniques such as drawing out, tapering, bending, and twisting, as well as the importance of accuracy and controlled hammer blows.
After this each pupil had the opportunity to create a bespoke piece. Working individually under expert guidance, they experienced the physical demands of forging while developing patience, resilience, and precision.

Lower Sixth Computer Science students visited The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park, the historic home of British codebreaking, which houses the world’s largest collection of working historic computers, including operational replicas of the Bombe and Colossus.
The students were given a behind-the-scenes guided tour that brought the history of computing vividly to life. They operated a working Enigma machine, discovered how the Lorenz (Tunny) cipher was broken using Colossus, and saw first-hand the scale and ingenuity of early electronic computing.
The trip ended with students trying their luck on a 1990s pinball machine - a reminder of just how far (and how quickly) computing technology has evolved!
