Celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day have been in full flow here today. It started with a whole School Assembly devoted to educating pupils on the significance of VE day and why it is so important to mark this occasion. The highlight was undoubtedly a film of Old Reedonian, 93-year-old Bill Collins, recounting his own memories of WWII and VE Day in particular when he was only 13 years old.
The library was converted into a VE Day ‘hub’ for pupils to immerse themselves in WWII themed activities - these included sending messages by Morse code on devices made during DT lessons and cracking German military codes using a virtual enigma machine. Younger pupils enjoyed making models of tanks in wood, card and paper origami and the exhibition of wartime food was very popular!
